Tirupur: The Tirupur Industrial Federation (TIF), a confederation of various textile associations, in collaboration with F-Labs, Coimbatore, is all set to open a school of fashion here very shortly under Cluster Development Programme (CDP) of the Textiles Committee, Government of India. G. Venugopal, Cluster Development Executive, Textiles Committee, told The Hindu that establishment of the school was aimed at promoting indigenous designing skills thereby increase the availability of skilled designers for various segments of textile production chain like knitting, printing and embroidery. The idea of a state-of-the-art designing institute has been mooted, according to president of TIF M.S. Mani, after studies highlighted that designing remains one of the weakest links in the Tirupur knitwear sector despite its great potential of providing value-addition to the garment. The school will offer an array of tailor-made designer courses to fresh candidates as well as those already employed in the textile sector. As a starter, an advanced diploma course and a diploma course in Fashion Designing of six months each in duration will be introduced.
