Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana said the objective of conducting Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Tournaments with the active participation of Congress cadres from each Assembly constituency was to create awareness among people on government welfare schemes. Speaking at the inaugural function of the tournament at M.R. College grounds here on Wednesday, the Minister called upon the party cadres to popularise the schemes with the same team spirit in rural areas and help the party win ensuing elections. MLA K. Veerabhadra Swamy said the Youth Congress planned the sports event and it was the responsibility of the youth to strengthen the Congress at the grassroot-level.

District Youth Congress president I. Raghu Raju said the tournament would be conducted till Jan. 14. Earlier, the participants carried placards displaying names of government welfare schemes. The tournament is being conducted on knock-out basis.
