Collective effort to make literary meet a success

Chitradurga: It is not only the Government that has been extending monetary assistance for the success of the 75th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan but several associations and philanthropists of the district have also come forward to donate groceries.

Several associations have joined hands with the district administration to supply free rice, pulses, oil, vegetables and flour.

The District Rice Mill Association has vowed to give 300 quintals of rice, while the Oil Mill Association has agreed to supply 5,000 kg of oil.

The Dal Mill Association has promised to donate 20 quintals of pulses.

Industrialist M.K. Tajpeer has said he would donate flour, while another donor has promised to give 33 quintals of jaggery.

The responsibility of supplying coconut and onion has been taken up by the Horticulture Department. It has promised to donate 24,000 coconuts and 240 quintals of onion.

The District Forest Office will supply vegetables, lemons and firewood.

As an estimated 36,000 litres of milk is required, the Karnataka Milk Federation has promised to supply it at 50 per cent concession.

“The four-day sammelan is scheduled to commence on January 29. Arrangements have been made to provide food to all those attending the event,” said Deputy Commissioner and sammelan treasurer Amlan Aditya Biswas. He said that a budget of Rs. 45 lakh had been prepared for supplying food, including several sweets, deserts, regular meals, tea and coffee.

Sweets such as badampuri, dry-jamun, payasam, Mysorepaak and kesari baath are on the menu.

People, mainly from North Karnataka, will be happy to know that Jawar Roti, which is their staple diet, will also be served as over 1.30 lakh Jawar Roti have been ordered. As much as 1,150 kg of pickles has been ordered.

Mr. Biswas said that arrangements had been made to supply drinking water to the participants.

He said that special arrangements to serve nearly 3,000 delegates and invitees had also been made.
