Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has decided to introduce special buses facilitating about 1,600 ‘departures’ from its Tirupur division to various towns in the State to ease the congestion during Pongal, according to S. Mani, General Manager, TNSTC (Coimbatore region). “This is an increase of 5 per cent over the number of departures during Pongal last year,” he told ‘The Hindu’. The special buses would be operated from January 9 to 14 to help the migrant workforce in the textile sector to visit their native towns. He said that buses from various transport divisions, including the 228 belonging to Tirupur division, would be regrouped to ensure 1,600 departures. A majority of special services/departures would be operated to destinations like Madurai, Tiruchi and Theni. Official sources added that the bus breakdown rate within Tirupur division of the corporation, comprising Tirupur, Palladam and Karumathampatti branches, had been brought down significantly this financial year. Breakdown rateThe breakdown rate among buses in Karumathampatti branch stood at 0.03 per 10,000 km, while it was 0.02 per 10,000 in Tirupur branch as on November 30. The Palladam branch registered nil breakdowns during the period.
