Tirupur: Rajya Sabha MP and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader T.K. Rengarajan has urged the Central and State Governments to allocate special funds to enhance infrastructure facilities in Tirupur region.

Speaking at a conference organised by CPI (M) to project the demands of people here on Tuesday evening, he said that the party would bring to the attention of the State Government the long-felt demand of residents of Tirupur for augmentation of drinking water facilities and better road network.

“We will also be highlighting the need for streamlining the operation of fair price shops in the city to ensure speedy distribution of commodities to family card holders,” he said. To overcome the commuting problems faced by the working class people, more trains should be operated to connect industrial towns of Erode, Tirupur and Coimbatore.

Mr. Rengarajan said that the party would also bring to the notice of Railway Ministry the need for introduction of additional trains from Tirupur to Madurai and Tiruchi on Saturdays, Sundays and on other holidays, considering that a majority of the migrant population based in Tirupur comes from those cities and its hinterland.

Mr. Rengarajan said a non-Congress and a non-BJP led government looked certain to win the forthcoming Parliament elections, going by the trends.

He criticised Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam men for making “attempts to purchase votes” at Thirumangalam constituency.

MLA C. Govindasamy and other district-level leaders of the party spoke.
