BANGALORE: The Chairman of the Legislative Council Veeranna Mathikatti has said that he will initiate a new practice of drafting Government Bills and Notifications first in Kannada instead of the exiting practice of drafting them first in English and later translating them into Kannada. He was speaking after releasing “Karnataka Ekikaranakke Dudida Mahaneeyaru, a book on the people who have struggled for the unification of the State, published by the Kannada Development Authority here on Tuesday. Mr. Mathikatti said that such a practice would help avoid confusion, ambiguity and misinterpretation. In the light of the ongoing efforts to introduce Kannada in all the wings of administration he would also initiate measures to use Kannada in the official business of the House, including numerals as it had been demanded by many members, he added. Delivering the keynote address, Chairman of KDA ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru said that the book attempts to trace the contributions of 154 persons to the cause of the unification of the State, including Christian missionaries Reverend F. Kittel and B.L. Rice, and the esteemed administrator Mirza Ismail and some organisations.
