dated January 8, 1959: Indian Roads Congress

Mr. W.X. Mascarenhas, Chief Engineer and Executive Director (Engineering) of the Life Insurance Corporation of India, in his presidential address to the Twenty-third Session of the Indian Roads Congress, in Hyderabad on January 7, urged the setting up of an all-India transportation board comprising officials and non-officials who would deal with the problems arising from the needs of transportation as an integrated whole, namely the needs of highway, inland waterway, minor port, etc., and of the vehicles and crafts using them. He said that the board would advise the Central and the State Governments on all matters and secure the co-ordination of policy between the various States in regard to these crucial and inter-related matters.
