Rangers defeat Shahdara

NEW DELHI: In a thrilling contest Royal Rangers Club defeated Shahdara Club 2-1 in a Group ‘A’ preliminary league match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) annual senior division open clubs championship at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday.

Inside-left Tenzin Taephei found the net in the 19th minute to open the account for Royal Rangers, which led the proceedings 1-0 at half-time. A determined Shahdara equalised in the 43rd minute through striker Anuj Peter, who capitalised on a defensive lapse.

In the 75th minute, Deepak Mehra connected a through-pass from the right to score the winner for Royal Rangers.

Rangers, with the three points from this game, increased its tally to seven points after four matches. Shahdara has six points from four outings.

In another match, Hindustan Club and Shastri Club played out a goalless draw. Hindustan has five points from three games, while Shastri has three from four.
