Hyderabad: An air of confusion and despondency gripped Satyam work centres in Kondapur as news broke about the resignation of IT giant’s Chairman B. Ramalinga Raju on Wednesday. With details of the ‘massive fraud’ trickling in through the media, the employees were in a state of stupor. The Satyam offices at Kondapur and Hitec City was drew hoards of cameramen and videographers even as the security guards had a tough time keeping them at bay. That the corporate debacle had come as a real hard jolt was evident. “We were asked not to comment or speak on the issue,” an employee said and scurried away at Satyam Infocity in Kondapur. Insiders say that the corridors in the office were crowded with Satyam staff discussing the ramifications of the developments. “There was a talk that Mr. Raju might resign, but no one expected him to admit to financial wrongdoings.” Work as usualWork was as usual by afternoon, as senior associates asked their subordinates to continue working. While the scene outside five Satyam offices in the twin cities was unusually subdued with not too many employees venturing out for their usual tea or a smoke, the mood inside, it was gathered, was one of anxiety with employees discussing their future and career. Mahesh, working in Web Access technology said if the Chairman as an individual had erred, it was not fair to castigate entire organisation.
Rohit said the developments should not affect company’s image with the clients. “We are an organisation of competent and well qualified people and delivering what is expected of us every day. We might be laid off as a fall out of this crisis but it could happen in any IT company. ”
