Kyra outplays Ratnika

CHANDIGARH: Second-seeded Kyra Shroff outclassed national women’s champion Ratnika Batra 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the ITF grade ‘III’ junior tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

In another match, the top-seeded Rashmi Teltumbe was shown the door by Valentina Starkova of Kazakhstan in straight sets.

In the boys’ event, the top-seeded Kaza Vinayak Sharma needed a tie-break in the third set to beat Digvijay Singh Mehta.

The results (quarterfinals): Boys: Kaza Vinayak Sharma bt Digvijay Singh Mehta 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(4); Laurent Oliver Daxhelet (Bel) bt Sumeet Shinde 6-4, 6-3; Venkat Iyer bt Vaidik Munshaw 6-4, 6-4; Yoannis Hilelis bt Alexander Igoshin (Rus) 6-2, 6-1.

Girls: Valentina Starkova (Kaz) bt Rashmi Teltumbe 6-3, 7-5; Aishwarya Agrawal bt Nova Patel 5-7, 6-4, 6-4; Sachie Ishizu (Jpn) bt Rishika Sunkara 6-4, 6-1; Kyra Shroff bt Ratnika Batra 6-0, 6-1.
