Staff Reporter

14 days’ judicial custody for the five nabbed earlier

‘Police remand to be sought in next hearing’

Country-made pistols recovered from accused

NEW DELHI: One more person has been arrested by the Noida police in connection with the alleged criminal assault on a young MBA student by a group of ten men in Noida on Monday night. Four of the accused are still at large.

The accused, identified as Little, was reportedly arrested at the Noida Sector 35 bus stand while he was allegedly trying to flee. He was arrested at the instance of his accomplices arrested earlier.

Five of the accused — Pushpendra, Srikant, Sanjay, Sudhir and Gautam — were arrested in Garhi Chaukhandi village within hours after the incident was reported to the police in the early hours of Tuesday.

“Hideouts of the remaining accused have been raided and a team has also been sent outside Noida to look for them. We are hopeful of arresting them soon. The accused will be booked under the Gangster Act,” said Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida) Naveen Arora, confirming the arrest.

The 22-year-old MBA student was returning home in a Wagon-R car along with her friend after shopping at The Great India Palace mall in Sector 18 of Noida when the young men riding three motorcycles waylaid them around 5 p.m. While one of them sat at the wheel, the others beat up the male friend and drove the vehicle to a secluded spot where they allegedly took turns to assault the girl.

Both the victim and her friend are residents of South Delhi.

Earlier on Wednesday, a local court sent the five accused, all in the age group of 18-25 years, to 14 days judicial custody. “We will seek police remand of the accused in the next hearing,” said Mr. Arora.

The police are believed to have requested the court for police remand of the accused to collect fingerprints and match them with those on the Wagon-R. The police reportedly recovered some country-made pistols from the accused and suspect that the victim was assaulted at gun-point.
