Nageswara Rao bags gold

Chennai: S. Nageswara Rao of Eastern Railway turned in a splendid clean and jerk in the 94kg final of the all-India railways weightlifting championships, here on Thursday, lifting 178kg to total 309kg, 1kg more than the second-placed T.K. Pandian, who had led him by 11kg at the end of the snatch round.

The results: Total (snatch + clean & jerk): 77kg: 1. V. Prabhu (ER) 298kg (134+164); 2. Darwin (SR) 295kg (130+165); 3. J. Magesh (WR) 294kg (130+164). 85kg: 1. K. Jagadeesan (SR) 302kg (137+165); 2. Aneesh Kumar (SR) 300kg (135+165); 3. N. Bhaskaran (WR) 298kg (132+166); 94kg: 1. S. Nageswara Rao (ER) 309kg (131+178); 2. T.K. Pandian (SCR) 308kg (142+166); 3. Nitu Sharma (NCR) 302kg (140+162).
