KOTTAYAM: In an official response to the reported recommendations of the Kerala Law Reforms Commission, the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church said here on Thursday that the wealth of the Orthodox Church at the parish, diocesan and church levels was administered by committees consisting of democratically elected priests and the laity as per the Church constitution which has been recognised by the Supreme Court. The Church also maintained that auditing of the accounts was a regular feature. In a pressnote from the Catholicate Palace, the Church hoped that the government would not resort to the enactment of law on the basis of the recommendations of the Commission. Meanwhile, Joseph Pulikkunnel, convener of Christian Action Committee, said the committeewelcomed the recommendations for the constitution of a panel for the management of wealth of churches.
