KOZHIKODE: The Kshetra Vimochana Samara Samithi will organise a ‘Malabar Kshetra Vimochana Yatra’ to make temple administration free of politics. The yatra, to be inaugurated by Kummanam Rajasekharan, State general secretary, Hindu Aikya Vedi, at Anjaneya temple, Palakkad, on January 10, will be launched to protest against the non-disbursal of compensation to temples which are a dilapidated state. N.C.V. Namboodiri, Kshetra Vimochana Samara Samithi secretary, and M.G. Ramakrishnan, who is leading the Malabar Yatra, told reporters here on Thursday that the government, which had not reclaimed thousands of acres of forest land, was now indulging in taking over temples built by the devotees. They said the Malabar Devaswom Board was formed by including members without following the instructions of the court. When there were three members in the Travancore Devaswom Board, there were nine members in the Malabar Devaswom Board. The expenses like travel expenses and others would come to at least Rs.2 lakh per month for these members. The board thus was in a hurry to take over new temples so as to find revenue for meeting the expenses of these members, they alleged. The Yatra will reach Kozhikode district on January 13. It will reach the Sulthan Bathery Mahaganapathi temple on January 14. The valedictory function will be held at Manjeswaram at 6 p.m. on January 15. K.P. Sasikala, State president, Hindu Aikya Vedia, and K.K. Balram, Saha Pranta Sangham Chalak, will speak at the valedictory function.
