Anganwadis to launch State-wide agitation against new rules

New rules harass anganwadis while serving no purpose, says union

ADILABAD: The anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union affiliated to the CITU has demanded scrapping of GOs 41 and 42 that had provisions that could give way to exploitation of the anganwadi ayahs. The Union has an agitational programme chalked out for pressing the demands.

Plan of action

At a press conference, union district president G. Rajamani, general secretary C. Vimala and CITU district president Mallesh said the union will take out a rally on January 19 in town and go begging on streets on January 20. On January 21 Union members plan to stage a protest in front of RDO’s office and submit a memorandum to him.

A post card campaign will be run until January 18, they added.

Impossible rules

Talking about the GOs, Mr.Mallesh said the orders made it mandatory for an anganwadi worker and the helper get permission from the gram sarpanch and the local SHG, before the concerned official in her child development project approved it.

Anganwadi centres are to be open until 3.30 pm, another provision of the GOs states, the pointed out.

Ridiculous rules

Seeking the concurrence of four persons for a day’s leave and running the centre for extra time with children who are not provided with mid day meals was ridiculous, the Union leader said.

They leaders also demanded release of salary arrears that accrued following a wage hike agreed upon by the government.
