Essential goodsAccording to Mandula Sudarshan Mudiraj, the president of District Lorry Owners’ Association, petrol bunks in the district were closed making the petrol and the diesel are the most sought after commodities. “Prices of onions going to Rs. 25 per kilogram from Rs.12 in the past two days is an indication of how the prices of essential commodities are soaring.” However, Mr. Sudarshan was hopeful that the strike may be called off by Thursday night or Friday morning as the Union government promised to reduce the price of petrol and diesel.
