BELLARY: The ongoing strike by oil sector employees has had its impact on life in Bellary city as well as in major towns and cities, including Hospet and Sandur. Shortage of petrol and diesel was reported at various outlets, leading to a heavy rush of motorists seeking fuel. On Friday, most petrol outlets here displayed “no stock” boards. Owners of vehicles had to run between outlets to get fuel, while many were left disappointed. Similar was the situation in Hospet city as almost all petrol outlets were dry. Enquiries revealed that several industries, connected with mining and crushing, were the worst hit owing to the fuel shortage. According to an estimate, the district used to get around 200 tankers of petrol and diesel everyday, most of which was being supplied to Sandur and Hospet, the mining hubs in the district. A petrol outlet owner told The Hindu that the situation might worsen if the supply of fuel did not resume.
