Corrections and clarifications

* * The third paragraph of a report “Role of Satyam auditors comes under scrutiny” (“Business” page, January 9, 2009) gave the designation of Mr. C. Muralikrishna as Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) southern regional council chairman. He is the former chairman.

The tenth paragraph of the lead story “Satyam chief admits to fraud, quits” (January 8, 2009, page 1) referred to “Auditing firm DSP Merrill Lynch”. DSP Merrill Lynch (DSPML) is an investment banker/financial service provider in India. Sathyam’s auditors are PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

* * A sentence in the fifth paragraph of a report “A railwayman’s unsung sacrifice” (“Newscape” page, January 8, 2009) was “… While the incident could have occurred between 9.30 am and 10 p.m., no medical aid arrived till about 2.30 a.m. when the railways resumed their operations, says Mr. Mahendra Kumar.” It should have been 9.30 p.m. as the terrorists began firing only late night at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, on November 26, 2008.

* * In the Sports section of the “Diary of Events 2008 – A Special Issue”, published on January 8, 2009, the caption under Rafael Nadal’s photograph (page 15) said that he had won his fifth successive French Open title. It should have been fourth.

On the same page, under the June 8 entry, it was mentioned that England completed a 2-0 Test series over host New Zealand. England hosted the series.
