Bhubaneswar: The Orissa government-run Grid Corp of Orissa and Orissa Power Transmission Corp will soon appoint more employees to overcome their manpower crisis, official sources said on Friday. “GRIDCO and OPTCL will soon hear good news,” Energy Secretary P K Jena said while responding to concerns expressed by C.J. Venugopal, the CMD of both the state-undertakings. Mr. Venugopal, while addressing a meeting on the occasion of logo release function of OPTCL, expressed concern over the inadequate manpower in the power sector. Asking the government to fill vacant posts in the power sector, Mr. Venugopal said both GRIDCO and OPTCL had wiped out liabilities during 2008 and hope to make profit from 2009. Mr. Jena on his part indicated recruitment up to 150 skilled employees in the two corporations. With the Power Grid Corporation India Ltd has decided to invest Rs 4,000 crore in the State for setting up of transmission highway, the requirement of skilled manpower was felt, Mr. Venugopal pointed out. “We have to achieve the target of 25,000 MW power in coming days,” Mr. Jena said, adding besides a number of captive power plants, various companies had signed MoUs with the state government for setting up mega power plants. Besides, central PSUs like NTPC had also proposals for setting up ultra-mega power plants in the state, Jena said adding that it was responsibility of the GRIDCO and the OPTCL to properly evacuate the power to other parts of the country facing power scarcity. – PTI
