VIZIANAGARAM: TDP district president Y. Ramana Murty has asked the State Government to concede the demands of transporters and save people from the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and vegetables. He said the poor were not in a position to celebrate Sankranti festival. At a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Murty said the government that hiked price of diesel for seven times in the past slashed marginal amount even after a slump in price of crude oil in international market. On Youth Congress cadres dharna in front of Jindal Aluminium on Friday, Mr. Murty said it was ‘a drama’ to divert attention of genuine displaced families, who were denied compensation for their lands. He said the registration in the name of company was a game plan of Congress leaders to convert the lands for commercial use in the near future, as the lands were close to tourist spots like Thatipudi, Araku and Borra Caves. He threatened stir if officials did not stop acting as stooges of the Congress. He also condemned the statement of Praja Rajyam Party leader Kala Venkata Rao. Former MP D.V.G. Sankar Rao and others were present.
