Seetaram in hospital

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Chairman and Director of Kannada daily Karavali Ale B.V. Seetaram, who was shifted to Mysore prison from Mangalore, has been admitted to K.R. Hospital here early on Saturday.

Mysore Jail Superintendent Veerabhadraswamy told The Hindu that Mr Seetaram, after admitting him into the prison here, was rushed to the hospital following some illness.

“On the advice of the hospital medical officer, Mr. Seetaram was admitted to the jail ward of the hospital for necessary treatment,” he said.

K.R. Hospital Superintendent Geetha Avadhani said Mr. Seetaram’s blood sugar levels were high and insulin was given to him. “It appears that Mr. Seetaram had not taken food before coming to Mysore and therefore he complained of weakness. Necessary fluid supplements were given to him for regaining strength,” she added.

“When I saw him at 11 a.m. on Saturday, his health was satisfactory,” she said. Dr. Avadhani said Mr. Seetaram was under the supervision of Dr. Ravishankar.

In Mangalore, Congress leader B. Janardhan Poojary has demanded the resignation of Home Minister V.S. Acharya for his failure to provide security to Mr. Seetaram.

Condemning Mr. Seetaram’s handcuffing he likened it to “handcuffing of media” and not just of Mr. Seetaram.

DSS protests

Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti staged a protest in Bangalore on Friday condemning the arrest of Mr. Seetaram.

Samiti president N. Murthy told presspersons that the handcuffing of Mr. Seetaram was a violation of human rights and accused the Government of misuse of power. The protestors took out a rally and submitted a memorandum to the Governor Rameshwar Thakur.
