Vijayawada
Hands-on experience! A girl trying her hand in making a pot out of wet clay in a demonstration at the 8th World Telugu Federation conference in Vijayawada on Friday. VIJAYAWADA: The day belongs to icons among the women’s fraternity, who stand for more than just success and excellence. Sailaja Kiran, Rajyalakshmi Rao, Padma Rajagopal and, above all, V.L. Indira Dutt – they were all there bringing elegance and charm to the women’s conference held at the World Telugu Federation’s 8th meet here on Saturday. Walking gracefully on to the dais, the dignitaries never stopped flashing their radiant smiles. Being the chief guest of the occasion, Margadarsi Chit Funds managing director Sailaja Kiran was the centre of attraction, as she was seen taking the lead in felicitating and honouring several women luminaries on the dais. Dignified and always at her charming best, WTF president Indira Dutt added elderly elegance to the occasion with her august presence. “Already, the woman has demonstrated enough ways that she is equal to man in taking up any challenge. Gandhiji rightly said if a woman is educated, the whole family is educated,” said Ms. Indira Dutt, amidst a roaring round of applause from the audience comprising the “who is who” of Vijayawada city. Again, the woman industrialist was quick to remind ‘her sisters’ present on the occasion their onerous duty of fighting against the increasing attacks on college girls. A large number of women from Telugu families from across the world attended the meet in their traditional sarees resplendent with bright and impressive colours. The elegantly dressed dignitaries hogged limelight, as the audience listened to their words in rapt attention not missing a word of their success stories. Hailing from Krishna district, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission member Rajyalakshmi Rao provided a glimpse of how her passion for raising awareness among consumers led her to occupy the present position. The author of the “Consumer is King” made a fervent plea for the educated class to learn and sensitise the illiterate about their rights as consumers in their everyday life. Veteran film actress Kanakam was felicitated by the federation in recognition of her services to Telugu cinema and language.
