State shielding Raju: Dattatreya

HYDERABAD: State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya has accused the government of trying to shield disgraced ex-chairman of Satyam Computers B. Ramalinga Raju and demanded a CBI probe into the Rs.7,100-crore fraud.

He told a press conference here on Sunday that the scam was not confined to Andhra Pradesh alone and questioned the delay by the Centre in acting swiftly in the wake of Mr. Raju’s confession. The BJP leader claimed an impression had been created that the government was hand-in-glove with former Satyam Chairman. It was meaningless for the CID to probe the scam when there was a likelihood of State itself becoming an “accused”.

He described the CID enquiry as “eyewash”; it was meant to divert people’s attention. Many other investigative agencies were not getting an opportunity to conduct the inquiry. The Centre had a major role and it should act immediately.

He faulted Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy for asserting that Maytas had not committed any irregularity. He demanded a white paper on the firm’s land bank.

He criticised the government for allotting of 278 acres to Maytas for the Metro Rail project in spite of objections from the Opposition.
