Move to wind up UGC cell opposed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala NGO Association has criticised the government’s move to wind up the University Grants Commission (UGC) cell currently working in the Department of College Education. In a press release, the association president James Sunny said several government colleges and aided colleges had come up in the State since 1996. Even though the responsibilities of the department had increased consequently, the government had not created any new employee posts in the department. He urged the government to take the need to improve the efficiency of the department seriously. —Special Correspondent
