MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Monday directed its Registrar General as well as the Chief Secretary to file individual affidavits, detailing the contingency plan drawn up to safeguard the court premises in Chennai and Madurai following the Mumbai terror attacks. A Division Bench of Justice F.M. Ibrahim Kalifulla and Justice P. Murgesen said the affidavits should be submitted by January 27. They appreciated advocate G. Thiagarajan for filing a public interest litigation petition with the “laudable” aim of protecting the High Court from aggression. The judges also recorded the averments made in the petitioner’s affidavit that security had been intensified at the Secretariat, railway stations and other places frequented by people. Even private information technology companies in Chennai had included stringent guidelines in their security manuals. Pointing out that the High Court was not given adequate protection, with everyone enjoying free access, the affidavit said: “The majestic doors of the court halls do not restrict any bad soul. As such, any armed terrorist or terrorists in disguise can enter [the court] without any restriction…”
