Sharing views: Retired police officers at a seminar on combating terrorism in the city on Sunday. HYDERABAD: Former Director-General of National Security Guards (NSG) and founder of Special Protection Group (SPG), S. Subramanian, on Sunday said that intelligence sharing is vital to combat terrorism. Decision makingSpeaking at a seminar on “To take a pledge to defeat terrorism,” organised by Association of Retired Police Officers here, he said policemen would succeed in gathering intelligence if they were on good terms with people. Information given by the people would be useful in decision making, he explained. Local supportMr. Subramanian also suggested setting up of groups in every locality with an active member as its convenor to share information, as terrorist organisations such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were successfully carrying out operations with the active support of locals. As terrorists are using garbage bins, parking places and other public areas to hide explosive devices, members of these groups in the colonies could ensure that municipal authorities clean them regularly. The groups would also keep a vigil on newcomers to the locality and alert police in case of any suspicious activity, he said. Association president D.V.L.N. Rama Krishna Rao and other retired officers were also present on the occasion.
