Collector warns brick kiln operators

Special Correspondent

TIRUVARUR: Collector M. Chandrasekaran has cautioned that stern action would be taken against those who operate brick kilns without permission.

In a press release issued here, the Collector said that it had been brought to the notice of the district administration that many people operated brick kilns in canal banks and poramboke lands. They take soil from the canal and its banks for the kilns. This weakens the canal banks. It results in breaches during rain and floods. This was experienced during the November rain last year.

Those who want to produce country bricks should get permission from the Collector by paying Rs. 100 as annual registration fees, Rs. 1,500 as application fees and Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 6,000 for taking soil for the brick kiln.

They can put up brick kilns only on patta lands.
