House burgled, jewellery stolen

TAMBARAM: Gold jewellery weighing 22 sovereigns and Rs.12,000 in cash were stolen from a house in Srinivasa Nagar in the Selaiyur police station limits on Sunday.
The burglary came to light when the inmates returned home after a trip to Puducherry. Devarajan went to Puducherry with his family on Sunday morning and returned in the evening to see his house ransacked. Police said culprits had entered the house by breaking open the rear door.
Quarrel ends in murder
A quarrel among two groups while playing cricket resulted in a murder at Perungalathur on Sunday evening.
Police said that two groups fought over playing cricket on a vacant plot in Perungalathur and one of them had to return after they were outnumbered by the other group.
Peerkankaranai police, who are investigating, said Idayachandran (26) of Kattabomman Street was among those who had clashed with a rival group in the morning.
He was returning home at night and was walking alone when he was surrounded by a group of men, who assaulted him with sickles.
Idayachandran cried out for help and hearing his cries, a grup of residents nearby went to the spot and rushed a bleeding Idayachandran to a hospital nearby.
However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
