Udhagamandalam: The stage is set for this hill station to host the 27th All India Rose Convention and International Rose Seminar between January 17 and 19. Stating that all the arrangements were in place and the venue-the Centenary Rose Park-was now in the process of being spruced up, the president of the Nilgiri Rose Society (NRS), K. Krishnakumar, told The Hindu here on Thursday that sessions, meetings etc. would be held at the JSS College of Pharmacy near the park. Th convention will be inaugurated by the Khadi Board Minister, K. Ramachandran. The Nilgiris Collector, Anandrao V.Patil, will preside. Pointing out that the event was being organised to commemorate the recognition of the park as a ‘Garden of Excellence’ by the World Federation of Rose Societies a couple of years ago, he said that it was being arranged in association with the Department of Horticulture. A sum of Rs. 6.5 lakh has been earmarked for holding the event. Stating that about 200 delegates from various part of the country including the president, Indian Rose Federation, Aravind Sable have confirmed their participation, Mr. Kumar said that the recent terror attacks in Mumbai had played spoil sport with the attendance.
