Grant for upgrading SAI centres
NEW DELHI: In order to provide state-of-the-art training to the core group of probables in wrestling and badminton to prepare for the Commonwealth Games, the Ministry of Sports has sanctioned Rs. 6.57 crore for upgradation of facilities at four Sports Authority of India (SAI) centres.
Facilities will be upgraded at SAI centres in Sonepat (Haryana), Chennai, Kolkata and Gandhi Nagar.
The wrestlers (84) will be trained at Sonepat while the shuttlers (40) will utilise facilities at the remaining three centres.
Besides, the Government has approved laying of four synthetic courts per centre for badminton. The Union Sports Minister M.S. Gill has directed the SAI to expedite the process of upgradation of these facilities.
