HYDERABAD: Its time to burn rubber on Hyderabadi asphalt! The city is all set to host the National Drag Race which will see cars and bikes racing down the ground beside Haj Terminal, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, this weekend. This will be the first time in the twin cities that audiences will get a glimpse of high-end cars and bikes racing down the tarmac. Organised by Andhra Pradesh Motor Sports Club (APMSC), over 120 teams from all over the country will participate in the ‘1/4 mile race’, which is a rage in USA. “Drag racing is a competition where two vehicles race against each other over 1,000 feet to get to the finish line in the shortest possible time. The sport actually involves cars, but we have also opened entries for two-wheelers,” said Samir Patel, vice-president of APMSC, during a press conference on Thursday. Audience will also have a chance to see foreign cars in full action. “We have a separate category for foreign cars and also modified ones. There are now eight cars equipped with Nitrous Oxide cylinders that are taking part in the event,” added Srikanth Araza, secretary, APMSC. ClassificationParticipating vehicles will be classified on the basis of engine capacity, frame type, vehicle construction materials, wheel base, and number of cylinders. Cars will also be sorted out for extra add-ons such as turbochargers, superchargers and nitrous oxide cylinders. “In all, we have 30 categories for cars and bikes. We will also have super bikes racing in the event. For more information visit ‘ www.apmsc.in’
