Presidency HSS in final

CHENNAI: Presidency HSS beat St. Joseph Indian by five wickets in the semifinals of the Polly Umrigar Trophy under-16 inter-State schools cricket tournament on Thursday.

St. Bede’s ‘A’ advanced to the title clash with seven-wicket win over St. Andrew’s in the other semifinal.

The scores: Semifinals: St. Joseph Indian HSS 184 for five in 50 overs (S. Nirmal 39, F.S. Nihal 48 n.o., M. Roshan 35) lost to Presidency HSS 185 for five in 47.5 overs (Aman Raj 31, Vijay Kumar 30, S. Mandeep 37 n.o.). St Andrews HSS 145 in 49 overs (B. Anirudh 31, K. Bharath Shankar three for 17) lost to St. Bede’s ‘A’ 149 for three in 37 overs (R. Anant 65 n.o.).

Quarterfinals: Mahila & Nutan EHS 54 in 23.2 overs (Pratyush Gupta five for 25, Kaushik Gupta three for 12) lost to Presidency 57 for no loss in 9.1 overs (Aman Raj 35 n.o.). St. Joseph Indian 177 for seven in 50 overs (K. Navneet 45, F.S. Nihal 32) bt Vidya Mandir 173 in 49 overs (M.A.M. Ganesh 46, Aditya Arun 46, F.S. Nihal three for 33, Abhishek Reddy three for 13). St. Patrick’s 132 in 42.4 overs (Ajay Sagar 53, A. Aswin Crist three for 20, P. Aparajith three for 31) lost to St. Bede’s ‘A’ 134 for three in 32 overs (K. Bharat Shankar 60, P. Thrilling win

Kanniah Cricket Academy edged past Asiatic ‘A’ to secure a one wicket win off the last ball in the under-14 Sanga Trophy cricket tournament.

The scores: U-14: Asiatic ‘A’ 112 in 30 overs (Swaminathan 28 n.o.) lost to Kanniah Cricket Academy 113 for nine in 30 overs (Rahul 45).

U-10: Asiatic ‘A’ 87 for eight in 19 overs (Lakshmikanth 26 n.o., Harish three for 20) lost to Asiatic ‘B’ 91 for four in 22 overs (Harish 27 n.o.); Prahalad Cricket Academy 102 for seven in 25 overs (P. Vidyuth 29, R.K. Aswin four for 17) lost to Asiatic ‘A’ 103 for four in 18.4 overs (Elavarasan 30, S. Rohit 45 n.o.).

Rishi scalps five

Rishi Vaidya scalped five, as Kedar CA defeated FSCA ‘B’ by 69 runs in the K.R. Sundararajan Memorial Trophy cricket tournament.

The scores: FSCA ‘D’ 174 for six in 30 overs (V. Srivatsan 45, S. Krishna 33) bt Prahalad 167 for eight in 30 overs (Prasanna 26, Viswanathan 26 n.o.); Kedar CA 200 for five in 30 overs (Sathiya Naarayan 53, Rohit Kalyan 30, Vijay 29 n.o.) bt FSCA ‘B’ 131 in 26.5 overs (S. Ramkumar advances

Top seed R. Ramkumar defeated Sarthak Sidhanth 6-4, 6-2 in a boys’ under-16 quarterfinal contest of the Triangle Tennis Trust State-ranking junior tournament at TTT courts, Nandanam, here on Thursday.

A 19-member team will represent Tamil Nadu in the 70th junior and youth inter-State table tennis championships to be held in Surat from January 17 to 21.

The team: Youth boys: G. Sathiyan, Sivananda Seshadri, R.S. Raja, S. Prasanna. Junior boys: G. Sathiyan, R. Venkataramanan, S. Prasanna, Ajay S. Bharadwaj. Youth girls: K. Shamini, A.V. Nivedita, U.V. Agni, Swetha Kumaravel. Junior girls: K.K. Narmadha, V. Sneha, Sumana R. Krishnan, N. Vidya.

South Zone swimming from today

The Velachery Aquatic Complex will host the South Zone age group swimming championship from January 16 to 18. Around 400 swimmers from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Puducherry will take part in the meet, across four age categories — Group 1 (15-17), Group 2 (13 and 14), Group 3 (11 and 12) and Group 4 (nine and 10).

Karnataka won the overall championship last year in Bangalore with 91 gold, 58 silver and 30 bronze medals. Tamil Nadu was placed a distant second.
