Teacher robbed at knife point

Staff Reporter

SALEM: A teacher was robbed of 22 sovereigns of jewellery at knife point on a moving train near here on Saturday.

Railway police said Devaki (35) of Ayodhyapattinam, working in a government school, and her four-year-old son Sriram were returning home in the Salem-Vridhachalam passenger train after visiting relatives in Villupuram district.

An unidentified man, who boarded the coach in which Devaki was travelling in Koothapadi, reportedly entered into an argument with the woman and robbed the jewels from her on knife point.

He also stabbed Devaki before fleeing the spot.

On hearing her screams, passengers informed the railway authorities.

She was admitted to a private hospital. A case was registered.
