Members of various Dalit organisations staging a dharna in Hubli on Saturday. HUBLI: Members of various Dalit organisations staged a protest in front of the suburban police station in Hubli on Saturday seeking action against the police constables who had allegedly beaten up a Dalit truck driver. Beaten upAccording to the protestors, Subhashcandra B. Yalaburgi, a truck owner and driver from Jantlishirur village of Mundaragi taluk of Gadag district, was allegedly beaten up by two police constables on Thursday on Gadag Road near Hubli. The protestors alleged that the two police personnel had beaten up the truck driver without any reason. They wanted the Police Department to take action against the police personnel involved in the incident. Leaders of various Dalit organisations Maruti Doddamani, Gurunath Ullikashi, and Gangadhar Perur staged a dharna in front of the police station in Hubli. DemandMP Pralhad Joshi, who spoke to the agitating Dalit leaders, demanded action against the police constables. The protestors withdrew their dharna after Deputy Commissioner of Police Chandiram Singh promised them that action would be taken against the two constables after an inquiry.
