A new course in business process outsourcing

NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University here has launched a new diploma programme in business process outsourcing (BPO) in association with Accenture.

Students who successfully complete the programme and pass all term-end examinations will be eligible to apply for employment with Accenture and other BPO companies.

Applications for the six-month diploma can be sent up to February 15. Candidates will have to appear at a written admission test in English Communication and Quantitative Ability to be conducted between February 7 and 15 across 18 specified centres.

“On-the-spot admissions will be offered to students who meet the eligibility criteria and pass the admission test. The last date for submission of admission fees is February 17,” said a University official over the weekend.

The programme is targeted at under-graduate and graduate students from Tier-I to Tier-IV cities and will be available to more than one million students across India via IGNOU’s extensive network.

“We have leveraged the expertise of Accenture to develop the course content and train the teachers. IGNOU owns the delivery of the content across 27 cities and in 43 programme centres in the first phase. This academia-industry collaboration will create huge employment opportunities for students,” said IGNOU Vice-Chancellor V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai.

IGNOU has worked closely with Accenture to develop the course and its deployment strategy.

“Our combined efforts will go a long way to help support the national agenda of skill development to enhance the employability of India’s young work force,” said Pankaj Vaish, Managing Director of Accenture’s delivery centre network for BPO.
