BANGALORE: Registration of land across the State has been affected even as hundreds of Government land surveyors, who have been on strike since January 15, continued to stay away from work seeking removal of the Commissioner of Survey Settlement and Land Records, Rajiv Chawla. Apart from seeking Mr. Chawla’s removal, against whom a case has been registered in the Halasuru Gate police station here, employees are seeking criminal action against him for allegedly abusing officials of the department. DeclineSources in the Stamps and Registrations Department said that the number of registrations that have generally come down in the recent months, have further declined following the agitation. “Unless the department issues registration sketch, transfer of land or registration of land cannot take place. In some cases, supervisors of the department have to affix thumb impression,” sources said. The registration of documents could be further affected in the coming days if the strike continues, sources said. “Our demand before the Government is the removal of Mr. Chawla since he has abused the officials of the department,” the Karnataka State Survey Settlement and Land Records Executive Employees’ Association President G.M. Basavaraju told presspersons on Friday. Meanwhile, hundreds of employees under the association gathered in front of Revenue Survey Office building and demanded action against Mr. Chawla. The police confirmed that a case under Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 in Halasuru Gate police station, was registered on January 15. “We are investigating the case,” police said.
