DEHRA DUN: A rampaging elephant crushed a man (65)working in his sugarcane field at Katarpur village in Hardwar and injured three others over the weekend. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital. The elephant is said to have been infuriated after Forest Department officials tried to force it back into the forests. It ran into the village and attacked farmers. Villagers have sought compensation for the victims and action against the officials concerned. They have also urged the authorities to ensure their safety as elephants have been damaging crops even during daytime in most of the villages on the forest periphery.
