Nalgonda blanks Mahabubnagar

HYDERABAD: Nalgonda recorded a 4-0 win over Mahabubnagar in the senior inter-district hockey championship for men, at the DSA Stadium in Nalgonda on Saturday.

Winger Mohd Aliuddin (2), Mohd. Rafiuddin and Mohd. Shafiuddin scored. Earlier, Sports Minister R. Damodar Reddy inaugurated the meet.

SR College in final

SR Engineering College of Warangal entered the final with a five-wicket win over Koneru Laxmaiah College (Guntur) in the seventh SR Champions Trophy State-level inter-engineering colleges cricket tournament in Warangal.

The scores: Koneru Laxmaiah College 113 for eight lost to SR Engineering College 114 for five (Rajesh 33, Sanath 32). TKR College of Engg, Meerpet (Hyd), 94 lost to Vidya Jyothi I, Moinabad (Hyd), 95 for six.

Don Bosco wins

Don Bosco Degree College (Hyderabad) recorded a six-wicket win over Business School (Hyderabad) in the final of the Don Bosco Twenty-20 invitation cricket tournament at Nalgonda.

The scores: Business School 118 for six (Benjamin Thomas 35) lost to Don Bosco Degree College 119 for four (Saleem 52).

Match drawn

State Bank of Hyderabad and AOC Centre were locked in a one-all draw in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at the Gymkhana Grounds here. SBH took the lead in the 32nd minute when Mohd Fareed scored off a corner kick taken by Akbar Abidi. However, AOC equalised in the 45th minute when Arvind Kumar was on target.

Kadapa in last four

Kadapa blanked Nellore 9-0 and entered the semifinals of the senior inter-district women’s hockey championship being held in Pulivendla.

The results: Quarterfinals: Kadapa bt Nellore 9-0; East Godavari bt Ranga Reddy 10-0; Nizamabad bt Chitoor 6-0; Anantapur bt Prakasam 3-0.

Hockey tournament

Young Turks Hockey Club will organise a one-day tournament in memory of J.V. Sunder Raj on January 26 at the Gymkhana Grounds for the ‘B’ Division teams. Entries close on January 21. Contact D. Ashok Kumar (9391112762).
