Chandrayaan-1 has earned revenue for the ISRO and created employment opportunities Indian astronauts to the moon in 2014 or 2015 CHENNAI: The Indian Space Research Organisation will bring out an atlas on the moon, said M. Annadurai, Project Director, Chandrayaan-1, here on Saturday. Answering a volley of questions from children at the book fair here, Mr Annadurai said it would be in three dimensions and it would be even better than Google earth. The atlas would be ready within a year, he said. The successful launch of Chandrayaan-1 had dual impact – one it had earned revenue for the ISRO and secondly it generated employment opportunities for many. Mr Annadurai said with the successful launch, many countries approached the ISRO to produce satellites for them. One of the reasons for this was that the mission was accomplished at a low cost. With the available man power at the ISRO, it would be difficult to take up projects. So, the ISRO was planning to recruit people. On sending people to the moon from India, Mr Annadurai said astronauts from the country would be sent to the moon in 2014 or 2015. The United States of America was planning to send a mission to the moon and it would follow the orbit of Chandrayaan-1. Earlier, India bought satellites from other countries and launched them from their space stations. Then it progressed to buying satellites and launching them from Indian space stations. “Now we have achieved creating our own satellite and sending it from our own space stations,” he said. On the occasion, Mr. Annadurai appealed to the parents to allow their wards to choose subjects of their choice as he was allowed by his parents.
