It’s the coldest day this season

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The city woke up to a very chilly winter morning on Saturday — in fact, the coldest day this season. At 13.4 degrees Celsius it truly felt like winter had set in.

The last time Bangalore city recorded colder temperatures was in January last when mercury dipped to 12 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological Centre here.

And as always some places were colder than the others. At HAL airport it was 12.9 degrees and at Yelahanka 11.5 degrees Celsius.

“I did not go for jogging in the morning because I just couldn’t get up,” said Sai Prithvi, a student from Sarjapur.

According to A. Muthuchami, Director of the Meteorological Department, this temperature was normal for the month of January.

“Last year, it was even colder in January,” he added.

The nip in the air comes from the cold and dry northerly winds blowing from the central plains, he explained.

The mercury dip could last another three days and there was no forecast of rain, said officials of the department.
