Banavasi (Uttara Kannada): Venkatachala Shastri, Kannada research scholar, who received the Pampa Award for 2008 at Banavasi on Saturday from Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, said that he would continue his work towards promoting Kannada and culture. The award carries a citation, shawl, memento and a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh. Prof. Shastri recalled the past glory of Banavasi as narrated by Pampa in his works. Reciting the poems of Pampa, Prof. Shastri said that they would inspire anybody. Referring to Banavasi as a land of beauty, happiness and joy, he said that the Kadamba dynasty used to celebrate “Madhu Mahotsav” with pomp and gaiety.
