West Ham defeats Fulham, Man United on top

LONDON: West Ham United made light of striker Craig Bellamy’s absence on Sunday, beating Fulham 3-1 to move further away from the Premier League relegation zone.

Di Michele put West Ham in front early on after a mistake from Fulham defender John Pantsil but Fulham levelled before the break when former West Ham defender Paul Konchesky fired an unstoppable shot past keeper Robert Green.

West Ham was much the better side in the second half and went ahead again after Konchesky brought down Carlton Cole in the area and Mark Noble swept in the penalty.

Cole wrapped up the points for West Ham when di Michele played him in for a neat finish past Mark Schwarzer.

Berbatov nets winner

Earlier on Saturday, a last-minute winner from Dimitar Berbatov sunk Bolton and sent Manchester United to the top for the first time this season.

The win lifted it one point clear of Liverpool with 17 matches left to play for both clubs. There was an even more dramatic late show at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea scored twice in the last two minutes to snatch a 2-1 win over Stoke.

The results: West Ham United 3 (David di Michele 7, Mark Noble 60-pen, Carlton Cole 76) bt Fulham 1 (Paul Konchesky 22).

On Saturday: Blackburn Rovers 3 (Benni McCarthy 61-pen, Jason Roberts 65, 85) bt Newcastle United 0.

Bolton Wanderers 0 lost to Manchester United 1 (Dimitar Berbatov 90); Chelsea 2 (Juliano Belletti 88, Frank Lampard 94) bt Stoke City 1 (Rory Delap 60); Manchester City 1 (Pablo Zabaleta 52) bt Wigan Athletic 0; Sunderland 1 (Danny Collins 11) lost to Aston Villa 2 (James Milner 60, Gareth Barry 80-pen); West Bromwich Albion 3 (Chris Brunt 4, Robert Koren 54, 67) bt Middlesbrough 0; Hull City 1 (Daniel Cousin 65) lost to Arsenal 3 (Emmanuel Adebayor 30, Samir Nasri 82, Nicklas Bendtner 86).
