Two sentenced to life

SALEM: A Salem fast track court on Tuesday sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for allegedly killing a child.

According to the prosecution, Selvakumar (28) of Thondamanthurai village in Perambalur district allegedly killed Rajesh (5), son of Rajamani (28) of the same village in Ayodhyapattinam here in January 2006.

It was said that Rajamani tried to hide the murder of her son. However, police found out the truth and registered a case.

After hearing the arguments, Judge Rajasekaran sentenced Selvakumar and Rajamani to life imprisonment.

Rehearsal

Students from various schools who were selected for performing cultural programmes during the Republic Day celebrations in the district on January 26, rehearsed on Tuesday.

Over 1,000 students from 15 schools will perform cultural programmes during the celebrations.

District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam watched the rehearsals. Senior officials were present.
