Bagalkot: Members of the district unit of the Karnataka State Broad Gauge Railway Agitation Committee have urged Divisional Railway Manager Adish Sharma to implement various demands. In a memorandum submitted to the official here on Tuesday, they sought a goods train service to Bijapur and Bagalkot districts from Bangalore. The other demands include keeping all 10 bogies, part of the Hampi Express, up to Bijapur; extension of the Kurkure Express service from Bangalore, to Bijapur; allowing the Nizamuddin-Yeshwantpur and Nizamuddin-Mysore trains to ply via Bijapur and conversion of the Hubli-Bijapur Express into a passenger train. The members also wanted direct train services to Bagalkot and Bijapur from Bangalore, New Delhi, Ajmer, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Mysore. They also sought basic amenities for the Bagalkot Railway Station such as proper electricity, increase in platform height, three more ticket booking counters, digital indication boards and reservation of jobs for those who had sacrificed their land to the Railways for its expansion work. Responding to the memorandum, Mr. Sharma said all the demands were genuine. They would be discussed at a meeting of railway officers on January 27 and 28 at Hubli and sincere efforts would be made to fulfil them.
