Special Correspondent

MADURAI: A father and two of his sons were sentenced to undergo life imprisonment in a case relating to the murder of a youth at a crematorium here.

According to prosecution, ‘Bullet’ Balu of Chokkikulam and his two sons, Jagannathan and Sivaprakasam, had gone to take part in a funeral. When the funeral procession was moving towards Thathaneri, both Jagannathan and Sivaprakasam allegedly picked up a wordy altercation with a person identified as R. Pandi (24) of the same locality, which resulted in exchange of blows at the crematorium.

After a while, the duo stabbed Pandi with a weapon. In a serious condition, he was rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital, where he died.

Sellur police registered a case of murder in March 2008 against all the three persons, including Balu.

The Fast Track Court Judge Jacob Jayakumar, who heard the case, sentenced ‘Bullet’ Balu and his two sons to undergo life term and imposed a fine of Rs.2,000 on each of them.

In the event of failure to pay the fine, each will have to serve one more year.
