Corrections and Clarifications

  • The name of the Sri Lankan Army Chief is Sarath Fonseka and not Fonsenka as mentioned in a report (heading and text) “LTTE confined to a small jungle: Fonsenka” (“International” page, January 19, 2009). Lt. Gen. G.S.C. Fonseka was appointed Commander of the Army in Sri Lanka on December 6, 2005.

  • The seventh paragraph of a report “Hizb co-founder’s arrest could set stage for dialogue” (“News Analysis”, January 16, 2009) was “Dar had been controversially released from jail in early 2000 on the orders of the then Minister of State for Home Mushtaq Ahmad Lone.” A reader said that Lone was Minister of State for Law and Parliamentary Affairs. At the time the release took place, Mushtaq Lone was Minister of State for Home. Partly as a result of his controversial actions, he was then relieved of this portfolio and given other charges. He held the Law and Parliamentary Affairs portfolio at the time of his killing.

  • Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s sons are Zamir and Zahir, and not Jameer and Jaheed as in the caption of the standalone PTI photograph titled “To Ajmer” (January 18, 2009).
