For their rights: CITU members block the road at the Five Road Junction as part of their State-wide agitation in Krishnagiri on Thursday.
KRISHNAGIRI: Over 400 trade union members affiliated to CITU, AITUC, ATT and MDMK were arrested when they blocked roads in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts on Thursday.
In Dharmapuri, as many as 254 persons including 30 women were arrested when they blocked the road in front of the Head Post Office. R. Venkatachalam, CITU State committee member, led the agitation. C. Nagarajan, district secretary, G. Venkateswaran, district secretary, AITUC, Palanisamy, district secretary, ATT and Selvaraj, district secretary of MDMK participated.
In Hosur, 140 members of CITU, All India Democratic Women’s Federation, and Construction Workers Federation, including 20 women, were arrested by the police when they blocked the road in front of the Head Post Office.
G. Sekar, State secretary CITU, let the protest. Anjela Mary, district president, All India Democratic Women’s Association, B.G. Murthy from Construction Workers Federation and Peter, district vice-president, CITU, took part.
In Krishnagiri, 24 CITU members were arrested by the town police at the Five Road Junction. S. Vasudevan, district president of CITU, presided over the agitation.
