Monisha to meet Saumya

BANGALORE: The top two seeds, Saumya Padhye and Monisha Vinayak, will clash in the women’s singles final of the Wearhouse State-ranking badminton championship.

In the semifinals played at the Sadhashivanagar Club courts here on Thursday, Monisha defeated Rishika Radhakrishnan 21-11, 21-16.

Saumya was adjudged winner after her rival Adfa Taqvi, who trailed 4-15 in the first game, retired with an injury.

In the men’s singles, fancied Abhijith Naimpally and B.S. Phalgun entered the quarterfinals while Anup Kiran went down to Irshad Khan.

Men’s singles: Pre quarterfinals: Jagdish Yadav bt Minad Kamath 24-22, 21-12; Romit Dodeja bt Anil Pradhan 21-11, 21-16; Adarsh Kumar bt Dhruv Kumar 21-18,11-21, 21-15; Irshad Khan bt M.D. Anup Kiran 21-14, 22-20; B.S. Phalgun bt Mohan Kumar 21-19, 21-7; Abijith Naimpally bt Jeevan 23-21, 21-10; Harshil bt R.N. Suraj 21-9, 21-14.

Women’s singles: Semifinals: Saumya Padhye bt Adfa Taqvi 5-4, retd.; Monisha Vinayak bt Rishika Radhakrishnan 21-11, 21-16.
