Pongal tourism festival evokes good response

‘Budding chef’ contest main attraction; 20 schools take part

TIRUCHI: The annual Pongal Tourism Festival for the school students organised by the Jenneys Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management and Jenneys College of Education evoked an overwhelming response with over 250 boys and girls from about 20 schools across the district displaying their talents in various events.

Students of classes from IX–XII participated in rangoli, painting, quiz, budding chef contests, all held on the theme ‘tourism’.

A kho-kho event also formed part of the celebrations.

The objective of the festival is to create awareness in the young minds of the importance of tourism for the overall development of the society.

While the painting contest attracted 75 entries, 17 teams participated in the quiz contest and 14 teams in the rangoli contest.

The main attraction was the ‘budding chef’ contest. The students exhibited their talents in the preparation of food items and the event attracted 12 school teams.

The rangoli was judged on creativity, colour and completion parameters.

Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, I. Satish Kumar, was the chief guest at the valediction and G. Balakrishnan, former Vice-Principal, St. Joseph’s College, was the guest of honour.

Prof. Balakrishnan conducted the quiz. Managing Director of the Academy A. Joseph Francis, Principal M. Ravi Shanker and Chief Executive Officer of Jenneys College G. Pandurangan, offered felicitations.

The following is the list of prize winners:

Rangoli: 1. Vignesh Sri Ranga Matriculation HSS, Srirangam (B. Sujatha and K. Vinothini); 2. St. Joseph’s HSS, Punganur (G. Muzhumathi and G. Janani) and 3. Om Maruthi Matriculation School, Karumandapam (S. Dhanalakshmi and M. Tamilselvi).

Quiz: 1. Seva Sangam Girls HSS (Joseline Sagaya Infanta and B. Agilandeswari), 2. Vignesh Sri Ranga Matriculation HSS (E. R. Shivram and S. Girish Shanmugam); 3. Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Matriculation School (V. Archana and K. Sivagami).

Budding Chef: 1.St. Joseph’s Matriculation School (S. Nisha Rani and P. Suganya); 2. Vignesh Sri Ranga Matriculation HSS (B. Pushkara and J. Aarthi); 3. Seva Sangam Girls HSS (V. Rajeshwari and I. Sri Gayathri).

Painting: 1. A. Sheela (Seva Sangam Girls HSS); 2. N. Aishwarya (Vignesh Sri Ranga Matriculation HSS); 3. P. Yoganathan (E. R. HSS).

Kho-Kho: Boys: Winners: Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Matriculation School; Runners: St. Joseph’s Matriculation School.

Girls: Winners: Seva Sangam Girls HSS; Runners: Annai Indhra Gandhi HSS.
