Kochi: The Indian Linux Users’ Group (I-LUG), Kochi chapter, in its monthly meeting on Sunday will dwell upon the power of command line interface. The group, in its previous meeting, had embarked on a mission to create awareness among students and teachers on the free software movement in a bid to spread the message of freedom in software use. “Continuing our initiative for involving teachers in the free software community, we have planned another meeting exclusively for teachers. This time, we have a technical presentation that will help teachers gain some confidence with the operating system basics,” said an I-LUG member. The technical discussion on the power of command line interface, which is not known to many teachers, will help open up avenues that familiarise students with ‘behind the scene’ functioning of applications besides nudging them to explore further into this unknown territory. “The presentation has been designed taking into consideration feedback from the teachers who attended the last meeting,” said the member. The technical presentation will throw light on the significance of the interface, on simple and complex commands, applications from command line, the basic functionality of a GUI (graphical user interface) Wrapper programme — sound juicer — besides giving a peek into shell scripting with a simple script and nudging them to explore further into this unknown territory. The presentation has been designed taking into consideration feedback
